I ate ate Mumbai Bistro for the first time today. I tried everything on the buffet and enjoyed all of it. Good food and friendly people, a great eating experience!

Veg samosas were fantastic, and my garlic naan had a great balance of flavor. I wasn't too pleased with the curry I ordered. It was kind of watery and the taste was flat. I have never been in the store. I ordered via Grub Hub. It came very quickly!

I don't understand the high ratings. They get stars for labeling which food is vegan, but everything tastes like the Indian food you can get at the grocery store in pouches and warm up in the microwave in 2 minutes. I'd skip it.

Okay... first let me start this review with a caveat: This ain't the high class joint to take your SO on a fancy pants date. It's also not the place to sit down and contemplate the joys of complex eating while sipping on your mango lassi and writing a sonnet. No sir/ma'am. Mumbai bistro is the kind of place that you go to when you've ran out of clean clothes to wear, but you still want to go out. Or perhaps its the kind of place that you go when you're so drained from working that you can't possibly bear to (gasp) MAKE dinner nor can you stand to wait for any period of time. You need indian food? You need it now? You need it cheap? You need Mumbai Bistro. If you're looking for the Shady Maple Smorgasboard, step on. There's only about 6 entrees at their buffet, but if you know what you're looking for you'll be fine. On the other hand, if you don't know what you're looking for, expect a couple of disappointments surrounded by pure, delicious bliss. By the way--skip the naan. It's not the best. The good: Saag paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala (it's actually a little sweet, but still okay,) Chicken curry, spiced chickpeas, that potato cauliflower dish. The bad: Paneer Masala (too sweet,) Vegetable korma & chicken korma (just not great,) the lentils. The ugly: Chicken vindaloo (burning hellfire and you'll find out what else too, if you eat it.) CONCLUSION: You can't get any better for this cheap quality: tread cautiously for the maximum deliciousness price: HOLY WOW. I mean.. I think it's like $5.25 for a pound of food.

The lunch buffet here is awesome. .the price is based on weight. The chicken, dal and saag are great, simply home made and delicious with the perfect blend of spices. (However, please don't try biriyani, they don't know how to cook that! ! ) I wd definitely recommend this place!

I think this is an over rated place. They warm up frozen food, one that you get from indian store. And serve it to you. They dont even do a good job at warming up the food. Ordered naan and paranthas. I cud tell they were deep brand garlic naan and paneer parantha. Biryani was not fresh either. Very disappointed.

I've been a loyal patron of New Delhi Restaurant at 4002 Chestnut Street for almost 30 years. Their food has been consistently delicious, their price is remarkably reasonable, and the family that owns the restaurant is warm and friendly. The place is a long time tradition for me and my friends! It's a happy day for me to discover that they've opened a location in the West Chester area. I'll be dropping in every chance I get

One and a half stars. Wanting Indian food to go I called this place because their rating on Yelp was so high. I asked for baignan bharta. No eggplant on the menu! The veg "biryani" I got tasted like stove-top stuffing - bland, with small bits of vegetables, and short-grained rice. I later realized that I have eaten the buffet at their other location in Center City. It was OK but still bland with uninteresting selections. I get it that this place is all about value, not fine dining, but Mumbai Bistro is a highly Americanized version of Indian food - a halfway decent meal for people who don't know Indian food.

Why does this restaurant have so many positive reviews? It's terrible! Maybe some of the reviewers have never tried any other Indian restaurants besides this one? I've been eating Indian food since I was a child. First of all, Mumbai cafe is not authentic at all. You can tell that their naan is frozen (I swear it's the same naan as the Trader Joes brand). They don't even make their own lassi. They sell a commercial version in bottles. The curry I ordered was watery and tasted like it came from a package. I was upset I wasted time, calories, and money here. It's like the Arby's of Indian food. Don't bother eating here. You might as well pick up some instant Indian fare at Trader Joes or an Indian grocery store because I swear it's the same thing. If you want to eat HOMEMADE Indian food made from scratch, go to Suvai in West Chester or Nala in Exton.

Another great lunch -- met a different person at the register today. They take a lot of pride in their work and product. Food was delicious as usual. Found out they buy their gluten free flat bread from Taffeta in south Phila. Awesome awesome awesome.

The best lunch in West Chester. Great prices, nice portions, and delicious Indian food. Food from the buffet is about $5 a pound, and they bake fresh naan for a couple bucks. Much better than some of the lukewarm meals you might find for the same price in express joints around the block, or the snide attitude of certain pita joints. The workers are eager and friendly. They have hip loungey Indian tunes crooning in the bistro. The atmosphere is nice, nothing spectacular, but I am sitting here so fat and happy I don't even care. Exquisitely stuffed with tikka masala, garlic naan, fragrant basimati rice, and spiced chickpeas. Go now!

Great casual indian good place. The dishes were fresh and tasty and the service was really good. Five stars for price - this is what good food should cost in the area versus all the overpriced options that are just ok and come with free attitude!

This place is awesome for a delicious, convenient, inexpensive dinner. We've done both take out and eaten in, and both are great. It's easy to order online for take out, and eating there is fun since it's a byob. Some of our favorite menu items are the chicken tikka masala, vegetables malai kofta, and garlic naan. In fact, the sauces from those two entrees go very nicely together, especially when sopped up by some delicious garlic naan. This place is a quick route to some tasty Indian food. Love the service too!

Phenomenal food. Menu may not seem impressive in size but that's how they keep everything fresh and amazing. Just took coworkers there, the ones who were familiar with Indian food were impressed, the others were glad the buffet gave them the option to try a little but of a few things. Everything is amazing but the korma, vindaloo, and masala chai are musts! Can't wait until they start to deliver.

Before I go any farther into this review, I must admit this is my first time eating Indian food; however I have been here 3 times now and I think it's delicious - especially for the price. I tend to go here on Sunday evenings to grab some quick grub to go from the buffet. On a side note, the guy who works the cash register (who I believe is the manager) has exceptionally good customer service skills.

  • Willi H.

I've been here a few times and it's been excellent each time. They have a wide variety of options (including vegetarian), the amount of spice is just perfect, and it's just straight up delicious. It's the only takeout food that actually makes me feel good after I eat it. Don't forget to get the garlic naan, too! Oh, also, the employees are really nice. :)

  • Jaan T.

Chewy, freshly baked naan plus tasty curries with just the right spices. You can pile your plate high or just nibble, as the buffet bar foods are sold by the pound. Top off your meal with gulab jamuns, precisely on the right side of achingly sweet, and kissed with exotic cardamom. Great place to visit before events in West Chester Borough--you'll be close to the venue, and with a buffet, no waiting. You can bustle through or linger according to your needs. Beer tastes amazing alongside, bring your own. Intimate setting.

We had the buffet which was delicious and a great value. I wasn't really paying attention to the names of the dishes, but I tried some of everything and all of it was good. So far, this is the best Indian restaurant that I've had in the area and we will definitely be back.

Excellent flavors and wonderfully tasty food at this neighborhood gem! So glad to have a highly affordable, quick, and reliable option for Indian in the borough. I've picked up food from here over 5 times since they opened and I'm never disappointed with it! Anyone who bashes this place is crazy. The food is great, the prices are great, and the quality is great. The guys who run it know what they're doing and they put forward a really good product! Love the Saag Paneer, Lamb Biryani, Chicken Tikka, and garlic naan!

I visited Mumbai Bistro while I was staying with a friend who lives in West Chester. For three people, we ordered lamb samosas, five entrees (two chicken, three vegetarian), three orders of rice, and three orders of naan. Our take-out order was ready within about 10 minutes and the person taking our order was friendly and helpful. Everything was very flavorful. We had more than plenty to eat and enough leftovers for the following day. It came to a total of about $42, which was an outstanding value particularly compared to what I am accustomed to paying for Indian food in my area. Highly recommend!

Absolutely excellent, quality Indian food here. Extremely reasonable prices. Convenient enough for a quick lunch & those on the go - the food is always prepared and ready at the food station and each time I go, the food is always fresh and hot. For those who have a little more time, you can sit and enjoy the cool vibe in the dining room. Overall, some of the best food in the WC area. Very impressed!

I was skeptical at first about the 5 star reviews, and was pleasantly surprised. All the dishes we tried were flavorful, not greasy and fresh. Samosas were the best I ever had. And the staff are super nice. The place has a simple, cafe like setup. For some reason I expected a more formal setting. The place is clean and pleasant though. Definitely worth a try!
